Laurenz Brunner:

The poster series reflects the linguistic chaos at the Rietveld Academy.
The graduation class of 2005 included students from 32 countries,
speaking 21 different mother tongues. More than half of the students
at the Academy are foreigners and are not able to speak Dutch. Even
though the school is run mainly in English, the administration still insists
on keeping the general communication in Dutch.

This is why I had the information for this year's graduation show translated
into all the different languages spoken by the final year's students, so that
the Dutch text always collides with at least one foreign language. Every
language was screen-printed as a seperate colour, creating more than 100
different versions of the poster: from 2 up to 21 print runs, creating some
pretty lurid-coloured versions. The names of all the students are listed at the
bottom, organised by departments they link to country codes to indicate
frequency and origin of students, who speak the represented language.

For this poster project I extended Akkurat Fett with the necessary non-latin
characters and accents to be able to write in Greek, Bulgarian, Hebrew,
Croatian, Polish etc.
