<title>Two New Contenders for the coveted &#x22;Man of the Y..</title>
<link>http://hk.zorpia.com/mody1805/journal/1926020</link>
<description>
&#x3C;p&#x3E;HAVE A LOVELY WEEKEND&#x26;nbsp; EVERY ONE,&#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;p&#x3E;WITH MORE SMILES ,PEACE AND MUCH LOVE .&#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;p&#x3E; If you are a guy, you know that getting our fair sex counterparts to carry their share isn&#x27;t the easiest thing in the world to accomplish. In August 2007 we published 3 pictures of men who were clearly the envy of every hen-pecked guy in the world. Those pictures were so popular, we have decided to add a couple more.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;img vspace=&#x22;0&#x22; hspace=&#x22;0&#x22; border=&#x22;0&#x22; align=&#x22;baseline&#x22; src=&#x22;http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w154/mody1805/jokes/200801manofyear01.jpg&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;Why buy a wagon when you have women to carry the load? What makes the picture on the right so special is the man has thoughtfully lightened his own load. This allows him to be stronger as he helps support the woman in red as she staggers down the road.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;img vspace=&#x22;0&#x22; hspace=&#x22;0&#x22; border=&#x22;0&#x22; align=&#x22;baseline&#x22; src=&#x22;http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w154/mody1805/jokes/200801manofyear02.jpg&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;p&#x3E;WANT LAUGH MORE !!&#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;p&#x3E; JOIN ME HERE.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;p&#x3E;plz click here to join now .

hidden and faced with smooth limestone. Because this blended in so well with the
surrounding casing, the opening was invisible. Around 820 AD, Abdullah Al Mamun mobilized
men to bore a tunnel into the pyramid to search for chambers and treasure. Due to the
difficulty of the task of breaking up the hard rock, fires were built to heat the rock and
then cold vinegar was poured over the heated rock. Battering rams were used to pound away
the weakened rock and clear a tunnel. Eventually, a passageway was found which descended
into the lowest chamber of the pyramid. Following this passageway back upward, the
original entrance was finally located. In these pictures of the NORTH side you can see the
intrusive entrance lower down, and the original entrance higher up flanked by angled
stones:&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

the original entrance. In the left view on the lower left you can see a granite
block, believed to be one of the large portcullis blocks that were originally
lowered in the antechamber to seal the main burial chamber. These have all been
removed from their original place, this one remains here. The picture on the
right is looking down the original entrance through the grating that is now in place, this
passageway runs over 100 yards in length to the subterranean chamber:&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

main entrance. You can notice the rough nature of this tunneling, while the original
passageways and chambers inside the pyramid are smooth and finished:&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p align=&#x22;center&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;The right view includes modern metal braces which were added to

&#x3C;p align=&#x22;left&#x22; style=&#x22;margin-left: 10px; margin-right: 10px;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;As mentioned, the original entry passageway was refound, this first view
shows the descending passageway leading into the lowest subterranean chamber, and also
leading back up to the original opening. During the intrusive tunneling, supposedly the
sound of falling rock was heard above revealing the existence of an upper cavity. Al Mamun
tunneled toward the sound and, amazing, burst into an ascending passageway. The second
view shows the original granite blocks, known as portcullis blocks, that were set in place
to originally seal access to these upper passageways and chambers. When Mamun had bored
through to the ascending passageway he had tunneled just to the side of these blocks which
are still in their original place:&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

to represent the pinnacle of the Pyramid Age, the Great Pyramid is the epitome
of the knowledge and experience of all previous pyramids. Khufu had every
advantage in growing up in an atmosphere of the several pyramid building
projects of his father, King Sneferu. In light of this it becomes easier to understand
that Khufu was more than qualified to oversee and organize the grand task of
building the monument that is the only surviving member of the Seven Wonders of
the World. So much uninformed speculation abounds as to the origin, engineering
and construction of the Great Pyramid, though we have a wealth of archaeological
evidence to piece together much of the accomplishment. Recently, remnants of
ramps have been found by
&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://guardians.net/hawass&#x22; style=&#x22;color: rgb(255, 255, 0);&#x22;&#x3E;Dr. Zahi Hawass&#x3C;/a&#x3E; on the south side of the pyramid that
attest that some type of ramping was indeed used in the construction of this
monument. The attribution of the pyramid to &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://guardians.net/egypt/khufu.htm&#x22;&#x3E;King Khufu&#x3C;/a&#x3E; is supported by
&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://guardians.net/hawass/articles/secretchambers.htm&#x22;&#x3E;workman&#xE2;&#x80;&#x99;s markings&#x3C;/a&#x3E; that were found in the pyramid, located in small weight
relieving chambers that were
never intended to be opened or seen after they were completed. &#x3C;o:p&#x3E;

precision with which the pyramid was executed is often the source of marvel and
speculation. It is likely that the attention to this precision was related to
the many structural problems encountered in previous pyramids. To minimize many
of the previous errors, the attention to precision produced a pyramid whose base
is level within 2.1 cm (less than 1 in!), with the only difference in the
length of the sides being 4.4 cm (1.75 in). The blocks used in the pyramid are
large, with a commonly stated average of 2.5 tons. Many blocks are indeed
smaller than this, the blocks toward the top decrease in size.&#x26;nbsp; Some of the
casing stones at the base are very large, weighing as much as 15 tons. The
heaviest blocks are the granite blocks used to roof the kings chambers and the
weight relieving chambers above the king&#xE2;&#x80;&#x99;s chamber. These are estimated to
weigh from 50 to 80 tons each!!&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/font&#x3E;&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p style=&#x22;text-align: justify;&#x22; class=&#x22;MsoNormal&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;u&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;&#x3C;font size=&#x22;6&#x22;&#x3E;New Features&#x3C;/font&#x3E;&#x3C;o:p&#x3E;&#x3C;font size=&#x22;6&#x22;&#x3E;

&#x3C;p class=&#x22;MsoNormal&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;&#x3C;font size=&#x22;4&#x22;&#x3E;The Great Pyramid has an internal
arrangement that is more elaborate than most of the other pyramids. Here, for
the first time&#x26;nbsp; we see a series of upper passageway and chambers that exist
within the body of the pyramid. A unique ascending passageway leads to a
magnificent corbelled gallery, know as the Grand Gallery. While it is tempting
for people to think that this gallery looks to be ceremonial in appearance, the
function of the gallery is more likely a holding place for large blocks which
were to seal off the upper chambers after the burial of the king, in order to
secure his sacred burial.&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/font&#x3E;&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p class=&#x22;MsoNormal&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;&#x3C;font size=&#x22;4&#x22;&#x3E;There is an antechamber between the grand
gallery and the main chamber. It has a configuration that housed large
portcullis blocking slabs which were designed to be lowered to seal the chamber
after the burial of the king.&#x3C;/font&#x3E;&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p class=&#x22;MsoNormal&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;&#x3C;font size=&#x22;4&#x22;&#x3E;The main burial chamber has two small
shafts in the north and south walls which extend through the substance of the
pyramid to the surface. The north channel is only 5&#x26;quot; high x 7&#x26;quot; wide
and ascends at an angle of approximately 3 1&#x3C;span style=&#x22;font-size: 12pt; font-family: Symbol;&#x22;&#x3E;&#xC2;&#xB0;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;and
is 235&#x27; in length. The southern channel measures about 8&#x26;quot; high x 12&#x26;quot;
wide, rises at an angle of 41&#x3C;span style=&#x22;font-size: 12pt; font-family: Symbol;&#x22;&#x3E;&#xC2;&#xB0;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;
and is 175&#x27; in length. The middle chamber, the so-called Queen&#x27;s chamber, has an
even more peculiar feature. It also has similar small shafts, though these end
with a closing plug and do not appear to pierce through to the outer surface of
the pyramid. You can read about the robotic exploration of these &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.cheops.org/&#x22;&#x3E;HERE&#x3C;/a&#x3E;.&#x3C;/font&#x3E;&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p class=&#x22;MsoNormal&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;&#x3C;font size=&#x22;4&#x22;&#x3E;You can read about the Great Pyramid in

History buffs and pilgrims flock to the rest of the country for its Pharaonic and spiritual allure, while Sharm attracts those looking for drastic landscapes, outdoor activities and parties.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;img vspace=&#x22;0&#x22; hspace=&#x22;0&#x22; border=&#x22;0&#x22; align=&#x22;bottom&#x22; src=&#x22;http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f83/Goranchek/Sharm_001.jpg&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;img vspace=&#x22;0&#x22; hspace=&#x22;0&#x22; border=&#x22;0&#x22; align=&#x22;bottom&#x22; src=&#x22;http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn47/Insp_rcook08/Sexy%20Woman/41zNp0YPq2L.jpg&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;Show / hide more information&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;The region of Sharm consists of a series of bays filled with gorgeous coral reefs along the eastern shore of the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula. It is ensconced in ridges and valleys of dark coloured sands once inhabited by ancient nomads and shepherds. Today Sharm is a carnival for European vacationers &#xE2;&#x80;&#x93; particularly Italians and Russians &#xE2;&#x80;&#x93; who want all the amenities and seaside diversions without the high price of European equivalents. Sharm is also considered one of the top three underwater diving locations in the world, rippling with the dramatic designs of vivid sea creatures.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;img vspace=&#x22;0&#x22; hspace=&#x22;0&#x22; border=&#x22;0&#x22; align=&#x22;bottom&#x22; src=&#x22;http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n219/jaydeeone/ART%20FROM%20THIS%20WORLD/EGYPT/PHOTOS/modys%20journal%20photos/1fc9.jpg&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;The central area of Sharm is Naama Bay, comprising strips of restaurants, hotels, clubs, casinos and shops. Most of the hotels have private beaches overlooking the purple and blue waters of the Red Sea. Speedboats zip around the shoreline all day. Tourist booths offering an array of activities dot along the main area of the bay and five- and-six-star hotels stretch around the curves of rock above the sea.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;img vspace=&#x22;0&#x22; hspace=&#x22;0&#x22; border=&#x22;0&#x22; align=&#x22;bottom&#x22; src=&#x22;http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n219/jaydeeone/ART%20FROM%20THIS%20WORLD/EGYPT/PHOTOS/modys%20journal%20photos/a9e0.jpg&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;The Sharm el-Maya section has more of a conservative mainland Egypt feel than Naama, and offers cheaper accommodations. It has a few good shops and restaurants and tends to attract the thrifty backpackers trekking through town. However, all the action is back in the lights and sounds of the Naama Bay strips. The locals can be a bit pushy about selling you things, but for the most part Egyptians are extremely warm and welcoming. Sharm is a pure resort site, and whatever it lacks in culture, it certainly makes for in its wealth of recreational activities and natural sites on land and water.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;Local history&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;img vspace=&#x22;0&#x22; hspace=&#x22;0&#x22; border=&#x22;0&#x22; align=&#x22;bottom&#x22; src=&#x22;http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee198/divergaziali/SHARM%20EL%20SHEIKH/51fc.jpg&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;img vspace=&#x22;0&#x22; hspace=&#x22;0&#x22; border=&#x22;0&#x22; align=&#x22;bottom&#x22; src=&#x22;http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w231/crazynoel/hot%20and%20gorgous%20looking%20woman%20ever/BIKINI-MICRO.jpg&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;In the 1980s Sharm was a virtually unknown and undeveloped beach town, but it has since burgeoned into a manicured resort. New construction is ongoing, much of which produces strips of hotels, shops and restaurants. Efforts in the last decade have worked to preserve the natural environment filled with colourful reef and fish, but many believe the massive development has destroyed much of this already.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;Local politics&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;img vspace=&#x22;0&#x22; hspace=&#x22;0&#x22; border=&#x22;0&#x22; align=&#x22;bottom&#x22; src=&#x22;http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc118/shabbytiger60/cffe5608.jpg&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;In July 2005 Sharm fell victim to a terrorist bombing, but this has not deterred too many visitors and the town rebounded completely in a couple months. The government stepped up security as a result, increasing the number of police officers and checkpoints. Less than a year later, Sharm hosted the World Economic Forum, which filled the town with some of the most important leaders in the world.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;p&#x3E;Harassed and teeming Mother of the World&#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;img vspace=&#x22;0&#x22; hspace=&#x22;0&#x22; border=&#x22;0&#x22; align=&#x22;bottom&#x22; src=&#x22;http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n219/jaydeeone/ART%20FROM%20THIS%20WORLD/EGYPT/PHOTOS/modys%20journal%20photos/e5f5.jpg&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;Rarely is a country so completely dominated by a single city. In Egypt, politics, finance, media and popular culture practically do not exist beyond the boundaries of Cairo. Tellingly, in the Egyptian language, the word for Cairo and for Egypt is one and the same: Masr. There is also an alternative and equally telling name for the city, which is Umm al-Dunya or &#xE2;&#x80;&#x98;Mother of the World&#xE2;&#x80;&#x99;.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;img vspace=&#x22;0&#x22; hspace=&#x22;0&#x22; border=&#x22;0&#x22; align=&#x22;bottom&#x22; src=&#x22;http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee101/Jaheebae/Egypt/c388.jpg&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;img vspace=&#x22;0&#x22; hspace=&#x22;0&#x22; border=&#x22;0&#x22; align=&#x22;bottom&#x22; src=&#x22;http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee101/Jaheebae/Egypt/8ba4.jpg&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;Show / hide more information&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;A 1956 revolution saw Gamal Abdel Nasser become the first president of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and Cairo become capital of the entire Arab-speaking world. It is a role that the city maintains today. A Middle Eastern Washington, New York and Hollywood rolled into one, Cairo is the region&#xE2;&#x80;&#x99;s elder statesman. Its recording artists are on permanent rotation from Beirut to Casablanca, from the Edgware Road to Brooklyn; the city&#xE2;&#x80;&#x99;s streets and buildings are familiar to millions of Arab speakers from the films produced here. Thanks to Cairo&#xE2;&#x80;&#x99;s position on the African continent, Eritreans, Ethiopians, Liberians, Tanzanians and Sudanese come here as students, as economic migrants, or fleeing internecine wars, making the Egyptian capital the ultimate &#xE2;&#x80;&#x98;bright lights, big city&#xE2;&#x80;&#x99; experience.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;img vspace=&#x22;0&#x22; hspace=&#x22;0&#x22; border=&#x22;0&#x22; align=&#x22;bottom&#x22; src=&#x22;http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee101/Jaheebae/Egypt/76c6.jpg&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;All of which adds colour and chaos to the visitor&#xE2;&#x80;&#x99;s experience. For most people, the great Pyramids of Giza, which lie on the western edge of the city, manage to exceed expectations, and the treasures of the Egyptian Museum, which include the golden death mask of Tutankhamun, are truly unmissable, but the real star is the teeming city itself. Islamic Cairo is the name given to a historic area containing the greatest concentration of medieval Islamic monuments to be found anywhere in the world &#xE2;&#x80;&#x93; literally hundreds are clustered into an area no bigger than a couple of square miles. These range from modest street-side marble fountains to stadium-sized mosques, equal in scale and beauty to Europe&#xE2;&#x80;&#x99;s cathedrals. At the heart of the district is the Khan al-Khalili bazaar. This is Cairo at its most frenetic and seductive, the Cairo of Ali Baba and Aladdin, where insistent salesmen hiss and beckon from behind wares that glitter and sparkle. Haggling is de rigueur. The perfect place for a breather is Fishawy&#xE2;&#x80;&#x99;s, a coffee house filling an alley at the heart of the bazaar that claims never to have closed in 200 years. An even better way to escape is to hire a felucca, one of the distinctive little triangular-sailed boats, and retreat on to the River Nile, which runs through the heart of the city. It is a perfect way to watch dusk descend and witness Cairo&#xE2;&#x80;&#x99;s spiky-minareted skyline turn to silhouette against a vermilion sky.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;Local history&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;img vspace=&#x22;0&#x22; hspace=&#x22;0&#x22; border=&#x22;0&#x22; align=&#x22;bottom&#x22; src=&#x22;http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y259/evalesco7/Photoshop/LEgypt.jpg&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;In 972 the North African Shiite Fatimid Dynasty conquered Egypt and built a capital called Al-Mansureya on what was then Babylon. Their leader, Al-Muez Ledin-Ellah, renamed it Al-Quahirah after the planet Mars which was rising on the day the city was founded. In the 16th century the city was taken by the Ottoman Empire. In the 19th century the Khedive (Ruler) of Egypt, Isma&#xE2;&#x80;&#x99;il Pasha, visited Paris, saw the redesigned city and added a new quarter to the western section of the city, along the banks of the Nile.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;Local politics&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;img vspace=&#x22;0&#x22; hspace=&#x22;0&#x22; border=&#x22;0&#x22; align=&#x22;bottom&#x22; src=&#x22;http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n219/jaydeeone/ART%20FROM%20THIS%20WORLD/EGYPT/PHOTOS/modys%20journal%20photos/HPIM0644.jpg&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;Although Egypt is a Middle Eastern country with a Middle Eastern culture, women have greater freedom here than in other countries. arrived in Aswan early in the morning. We decided to meet at noon for
our tour of the city. Our hotel had a great view overlooking the Nile.
It was beautiful! We wandered the city, and had lunch. I walked the
markets with Angelina and Paul. The men would all comment to Paul what
a lucky man he was to have two wives. Then they would follow it up with
the question....how many camels did you pay? Angelina and I were more
and more offended as the day went by. One man laughed and said he had
lost 20% of his business asking this question, but it did not stop him
from asking. Later we would discover this was a valid question in their
culture. A Muslim man can have up to four wives as long as he can
afford them. When a Muslim man asks for a woman&#x27;s hand in marriage he
buys her a camel /camels, gives her money or gold. &#x3C;br /&#x3E; Later that
night we went to a Nubian Village for dinner, learned about their
culture, and had a camel trek. I for one have had my share of camel
rides. The camels in India were &#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;div class=&#x22;photo_style_inline_left&#x22; style=&#x22;width: 229px;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.travelblog.org/Photos/2421949.html&#x22; onclick=&#x22;dialog(&#x26;quot;/Photos/2421949.html?popped=1&#x26;quot;,&#x26;quot;tbphoto&#x26;quot;,880,748);return false;&#x22; class=&#x22;ptl&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;img width=&#x22;225&#x22; height=&#x22;300&#x22; src=&#x22;http://img6.travelblog.org/Photos/48830/285512/t/2421949-Aswan-Markets-2.jpg&#x22; style=&#x22;border: medium none ;&#x22; title=&#x22;Aswan Markets&#x22; alt=&#x22;Aswan Markets&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.travelblog.org/Photos/2421949.html&#x22; onclick=&#x22;dialog(&#x26;quot;/Photos/2421949.html?popped=1&#x26;quot;,&#x26;quot;tbphoto&#x26;quot;,880,748);return false;&#x22; class=&#x22;ptl&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;Aswan Markets&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;p&#x3E;
Cruising down the Nile is a magical experience, we moored at Edfu,
received a wake up call at 7ish and ducked down for a buffet breakfast.
After breakfast we headed ashore to visit the well preserved Temple of
Horus, considered one of the finest examples of temple construction! &#x3C;br /&#x3E;

We all had great fun dancing with the children in the village. &#x3C;br /&#x3E; &#x3C;br /&#x3E;
Later when I arrived back to my hotel room, I received a call from a
man. He said he had seen me earlier in the day and wanted to invite me
for a drink. I asked where he had seen me and he explained it was while
I was going up the stairs to my room. He said he had been waiting for
me to return to my room. This scared me. I had no idea who he was. I
started to wonder if he had been calling or watching my room. He said
he was Egyptian and worked as a tour guide. I thanked him, said I was
flattered, but I needed to get up early the next morning to catch a
flight. ( I was flying to see the Abu Simbel Temple). He sounded
surprised I said no and gave me his room number should I change my
mind. &#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;p&#x3E;hahaahah&#x26;nbsp; that is was a joke .ok &#x3C;br /&#x3E; &#x3C;br style=&#x22;clear: both;&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;div class=&#x22;photo_style&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.travelblog.org/Photos/2421930.html&#x22; the clearest water I have ever snorkled in, and the coral and fish were
amazing too! Dahab is a little Diving town on the coast of the Sinai
region up in the north of Egypt, perfectly set up for relaxing and
exploring the magical underwater world of the Red Sea. We stayed for a
few days and just read books, snorkled and treated ourselves to the
cheap, quality food you find in all the restaurants along the
waterfront. everyone in the world would love this place, without a
doubt. &#x3C;br /&#x3E; &#x3C;img vspace=&#x22;0&#x22; hspace=&#x22;0&#x22; border=&#x22;0&#x22; align=&#x22;bottom&#x22; src=&#x22;http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m110/SophieSparrow/Underwater/52020022.jpg&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;After a good few days of doing nothing, our batteries
were recharged and we headed south to what we soon found out was the
real Egypt. Luxor the destination, a city on the edge of the Nile river
with a couple big old Temples, the Valley of the Kings(which we
regrettably didn&#x27;t visit) and the famous Faluka boat rides up th Nile.
the people here a very poor, living in squallars and fighting for every
last pound they can get. they&#x27;ll drive you around on their horse and
cart for half an hour for about 5 Egyptian pounds which is about 1$US.
And by the state of the horses &#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;div style=&#x22;width: 304px;&#x22; class=&#x22;photo_style_inline_left&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;a class=&#x22;ptl&#x22; onclick=&#x22;dialog(&#x26;quot;/Photos/640647.html?popped=1&#x26;quot;,&#x26;quot;tbphoto&#x26;quot;,880,748);return false;&#x22; href=&#x22;http://www.travelblog.org/Photos/640647.html&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;img width=&#x22;300&#x22; height=&#x22;225&#x22; alt=&#x22;four countries in one day!&#x22; title=&#x22;four countries in one day!&#x22; style=&#x22;border: medium none ;&#x22; src=&#x22;http://img2.travelblog.org/Photos/142/98110/t/640647-four-countries-in-one-day-1.jpg&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;a class=&#x22;ptl&#x22; onclick=&#x22;dialog(&#x26;quot;/Photos/640647.html?popped=1&#x26;quot;,&#x26;quot;tbphoto&#x26;quot;,880,748);return false;&#x22; href=&#x22;http://www.travelblog.org/Photos/640647.html&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;four countries in one day!&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;this
morning we were in Jordan, then we had lunch in Israel, and here we are
cruising down towards Dahab in Egypy, looking out over the Red Sea at
Suadi Arabia &#x3C;/div&#x3E;I doubt that they get to see any of that 5pounds. &#x3C;br /&#x3E; &#x3C;img vspace=&#x22;0&#x22; hspace=&#x22;0&#x22; border=&#x22;0&#x22; align=&#x22;bottom&#x22; src=&#x22;http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m110/SophieSparrow/Underwater/14340021.jpg&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;It&#x27;s
also still the month of Rammadan, so finding food during the day is
very hard and I&#x27;m finding myself quickly fading away to a featherweight
version of the somewhat &#x26;quot;curvy&#x26;quot; russ that I&#x27;ve been of late. when the
food does arrive though, after sundown, it&#x27;s generally Rice, beans,
Falafuls, Tahina and Pita bread which is all good suff. next we&#x27;re off
to Cairo to chek out some Pyramids &#x3C;br style=&#x22;clear: both;&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;div class=&#x22;photopager2&#x22;&#x3E;41 Photo(s): 21 Displayed : Extra Photos: &#x3C;span class=&#x22;pager&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;span class=&#x22;none&#x22;&#x3E;&#xC2;&#xAB; <title>MORE THAN 3 PYRAMIDS</title>
<link>http://hk.zorpia.com/mody1805/journal/1818486</link>
<description>
&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;p&#x3E;Here is something about&#x26;nbsp; some different&#x26;nbsp; pyramids we have in Egypt .&#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;p&#x3E;Not just&#x26;nbsp; the 3 great pyramids of Giza .&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;p&#x3E;Enjoy know about them friends .&#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;p&#x3E;Wish to meet you soon here .&#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;img vspace=&#x22;0&#x22; hspace=&#x22;0&#x22; border=&#x22;0&#x22; align=&#x22;bottom&#x22; src=&#x22;http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc163/dmerser91/pyramids.jpg&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;A
visit to the pyramids is definitely one of the highlights of a trip to
Egypt. However, there is much more to see than only the well-known
Pyramids of Giza. There is a number of other sites where pyramids were
built during the Old Kingdom. Besides Giza, the most famous sites are
Saqqara - which features the first pyramid ever - and Dahshur with its
unique Bent Pyramid. Whilst it is possible to visit all three sites on
one single day I wouldn&#x27;t recommend it. Access to the Giza pyramids is
easily possible on public transport hence there is no need for an
expensive guided tour. I&#x27;d recommend a full day in Giza, especially if
you like to wander off into the desert for the most spectacular views
from afar. As for Dahshur, there are only two pyramids which are worth
visiting. A visit to these two pyramids should be linked with a visit
to nearby Saqqara site with its pyramids and &#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;div class=&#x22;photo_style_inline_left&#x22; style=&#x22;width: 304px;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.travelblog.org/Photos/1953605.html&#x22; onclick=&#x22;dialog(&#x26;quot;/Photos/1953605.html?popped=1&#x26;quot;,&#x26;quot;tbphoto&#x26;quot;,880,748);return false;&#x22; class=&#x22;ptl&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;img width=&#x22;300&#x22; height=&#x22;300&#x22; src=&#x22;http://img5.travelblog.org/Photos/17776/243953/t/1953605-Three-Camels-1.jpg&#x22; style=&#x22;border: medium none ;&#x22; title=&#x22;Three Camels&#x22; alt=&#x22;Three Camels&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.travelblog.org/Photos/1953605.html&#x22; onclick=&#x22;dialog(&#x26;quot;/Photos/1953605.html?popped=1&#x26;quot;,&#x26;quot;tbphoto&#x26;quot;,880,748);return false;&#x22; class=&#x22;ptl&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;Three Camels&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;The Great Pyramid, Giza&#x3C;/div&#x3E;mastabas on the same day. &#x3C;br /&#x3E; &#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;h2&#x3E;Pyramids of Giza&#x3C;/h2&#x3E; &#x3C;br /&#x3E;Of
the Seven Wonders of the ancient world, only the Pyramids of Giza have
withstood the ravages of time. &#x26;quot;From the summit of these monuments,
forty centuries look upon you&#x26;quot;, cried Napoleon; &#x26;quot;A practical joke
played on History&#x26;quot;, retorted another visitor. &#x3C;br /&#x3E; &#x3C;br /&#x3E;The &#x3C;strong&#x3E;Great Pyramid of Giza &#x3C;/strong&#x3E;is
the oldest and largest of the three pyramids in the Giza Necropolis
bordering what is now Cairo. The pyramid was built over a 20-year
period as a tomb for Pharaoh Cheops. The tallest man-made structure in
the world for over 3,800 years, it was finished around 2,500 BC.
Unfortunately, not much is known about Cheops: his tomb had been robbed
long before archaeologists came upon it. Any information about him was
taken with the objects inside the tomb. The limestone casing which
covered the outside of the pyramid has eroded or been removed over
time. &#x3C;br /&#x3E; &#x3C;br /&#x3E;The &#x3C;strong&#x3E;Pyramid of Chephren &#x3C;/strong&#x3E;is the second largest of
the Giza pyramids. It has a base length of 215m and originally rose to
a height of 143m. The pyramid sits on bedrock which is 10m higher than
the Cheops pyramid which makes it look taller. Chephren was &#x3C;div class=&#x22;photo_style_inline&#x22; style=&#x22;width: 304px;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.travelblog.org/Photos/2036740.html&#x22; onclick=&#x22;dialog(&#x26;quot;/Photos/2036740.html?popped=1&#x26;quot;,&#x26;quot;tbphoto&#x26;quot;,880,748);return false;&#x22; class=&#x22;ptl&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;img width=&#x22;300&#x22; height=&#x22;300&#x22; src=&#x22;http://img6.travelblog.org/Photos/17776/243953/t/2036740-Pyramids-of-Giza-0.jpg&#x22; style=&#x22;border: medium none ;&#x22; title=&#x22;Pyramids of Giza &#x22; alt=&#x22;Pyramids of Giza &#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.travelblog.org/Photos/2036740.html&#x22; onclick=&#x22;dialog(&#x26;quot;/Photos/2036740.html?popped=1&#x26;quot;,&#x26;quot;tbphoto&#x26;quot;,880,748);return false;&#x22; class=&#x22;ptl&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;Pyramids of Giza &#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;Mykerinos&#x27; Pyramid and Chephren&#x27;s Pyramid behind one of the small pyramids of queens&#x3C;/div&#x3E;the
son and successor of Cheops. There is no evidence that anyone was ever
buried in the main chamber. No inscriptions have been found in the
pyramid, however there is a sarcophagus in the main chamber. The top of
the pyramid still has some of the limestone casing that once covered
the entire pyramid. &#x3C;br /&#x3E; &#x3C;br /&#x3E;The &#x3C;strong&#x3E;Mykerinos Pyramid &#x3C;/strong&#x3E; is the
smallest of the three pyramids of Giza. Mykerinos was the successor to
Chephren. The pyramid was not complete when Menkaure died and the
granite encasement was in fact never finished. The pyramid stands some
65m high which is much smaller than the other two pyramids at Giza. A
sarcophagus was found inside the funerary chamber but lost at sea while
it was being shipped to England. &#x3C;br /&#x3E; &#x3C;br /&#x3E;The &#x3C;strong&#x3E;Great Sphinx of Giza&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;
is a half-human, half-lion colossal statue next to the Chephren
pyramid. It is the earliest known monumental sculpture. The Sphinx was
probably built around 2,500 BC and is thought to be a guardian figure,
protecting the tomb of the Chephren by warding off evil spirits. The
Sphinx&#x27;s face was mainly damaged during French occupation around 1800,
when Mameluke troops used it for target practice for their field &#x3C;div class=&#x22;photo_style_inline_left&#x22; style=&#x22;width: 304px;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.travelblog.org/Photos/1953622.html&#x22; onclick=&#x22;dialog(&#x26;quot;/Photos/1953622.html?popped=1&#x26;quot;,&#x26;quot;tbphoto&#x26;quot;,880,748);return false;&#x22; class=&#x22;ptl&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;img width=&#x22;300&#x22; height=&#x22;300&#x22; src=&#x22;http://img5.travelblog.org/Photos/17776/243953/t/1953622-The-Great-Sphinx-of-Giza-1.jpg&#x22; style=&#x22;border: medium none ;&#x22; title=&#x22;The Great Sphinx of Giza&#x22; alt=&#x22;The Great Sphinx of Giza&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.travelblog.org/Photos/1953622.html&#x22; onclick=&#x22;dialog(&#x26;quot;/Photos/1953622.html?popped=1&#x26;quot;,&#x26;quot;tbphoto&#x26;quot;,880,748);return false;&#x22; class=&#x22;ptl&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;The Great Sphinx of Giza&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;Commonly
believed to have been built by ancient Egyptians in the 3rd millennium
BC, this half-human, half-lion Sphinx statue it is the earliest known
monumental sculpture.&#x3C;/div&#x3E;cannons, but its body has been weathered by the elements for thousands of years. &#x3C;br /&#x3E; &#x3C;br /&#x3E;The
cheapest way to get to the pyramids from Central Cairo is to take the
metro to Giza Station for just LE 1. From there, hop on any public bus
or minibus which is headed west on Pyramids road (8km for LE 0,50). You
should note that Giza can be a nightmare. Its atmosphere can be ruined
by the road, the coaches, the thousands of tourists and a seemingly
equal number of Egyptians offering cheap souvenirs, donkey, horse and
camel rides at far too high prices. Try to be there first thing in the
morning and retreat in the dessert when it becomes too busy. &#x3C;br /&#x3E; &#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;h2&#x3E;Pyramids of Dahshur&#x3C;/h2&#x3E; &#x3C;br /&#x3E;The
Dahshur pyramid field (LE25) contains some of the most impressive of
all the pyramids, and some of the most significant in the history of
pyramid building. Two Old Kingdom pyramids can be found here in the
desert. Both of them are credited to Snofru, the father of Cheops. The
interior of the Red Pyramid with its corbel vaulted ceiling is well
worth a look, and the Bent Pyramid preserves much of the outer casing

the time of its completion, it was the tallest man-made structure in
the world. It is also believed to be the world&#x27;s first successful
attempt at constructing a true smooth-sided pyramid.&#x3C;/div&#x3E;was stripped
from the Giza pyramids centuries ago. The lack of tourists gives you a
chance to take in the immensity of these monuments. In fact, I was
literally on my own at both pyramids - quite a contrast to the busy
Giza pyramids. &#x3C;br /&#x3E; &#x3C;br /&#x3E;Snofru&#x27;s &#x3C;strong&#x3E;Red Pyramid&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; is named after the
colour of the limestone it was built from. Just over 100m high, the
interior is open to the public. However the electric lighting is poor
and sometimes fails, so it&#x27;s a good idea to bring your own torch. I
entered the pyramid and climbed down a low and steep, long shaft which
led me to one of the two antechambers. From here, it was a short way to
the actual burial chamber with its sarcophagus. One definite advantage
of visiting the interior of this pyramid rather than those at Giza is
that you are likely to be alone to absorb the rather eerie atmosphere. &#x3C;br /&#x3E; &#x3C;br /&#x3E;From the Red Pyramid, a track leads south to the pyramid where Snofru was buried, the &#x3C;strong&#x3E;Bent Pyramid&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;.
This is not only the most intriguing of the Dahshur pyramids, but,
because of its state of preservation, also the most breathtaking. What
makes Snofru&#x27;s &#x3C;div class=&#x22;photo_style_inline_left&#x22; style=&#x22;width: 304px;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.travelblog.org/Photos/1946926.html&#x22; onclick=&#x22;dialog(&#x26;quot;/Photos/1946926.html?popped=1&#x26;quot;,&#x26;quot;tbphoto&#x26;quot;,880,748);return false;&#x22; class=&#x22;ptl&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;img width=&#x22;300&#x22; height=&#x22;188&#x22; src=&#x22;http://img5.travelblog.org/Photos/17776/243953/t/1946926-Red-Pyramid-2.jpg&#x22; style=&#x22;border: medium none ;&#x22; title=&#x22;Red Pyramid&#x22; alt=&#x22;Red Pyramid&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.travelblog.org/Photos/1946926.html&#x22; onclick=&#x22;dialog(&#x26;quot;/Photos/1946926.html?popped=1&#x26;quot;,&#x26;quot;tbphoto&#x26;quot;,880,748);return false;&#x22; class=&#x22;ptl&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;Red Pyramid&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;The
Red Pyramid is the largest of the three major pyramids located at the
Dahshur necropolis, and the third largest Egyptian pyramid, after those
of Cheops and Chepren at Giza. &#x3C;/div&#x3E;final resting place different
from all the other pyramids is its change of angle towards the top: it
rises more steeply than the Red Pyramid or Giza pyramids for
three-quarters of its height, before abruptly changing to a gentler
slope - hence its name. The explanation for its shape, and why Snofru
should have built two pyramids only a kilometre apart, is a
long-standing mystery. &#x3C;br /&#x3E; &#x3C;br /&#x3E;It is both difficult and
time-consuming to get to Dahshur on public transport hence I opted for
a taxi. My hostel provided me with a chauffeur-driven car for EUR 25,-
per day. I decided to visit both Dahshur and Saqqara during this day
and left around 7.30 in the morning. It took me about 1 hour to get to
Dahshur where I spent some 2.5 hours before my driver took me to
Saqqara, 10km away. &#x3C;br /&#x3E; &#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;h2&#x3E;Pyramids of Saqqara&#x3C;/h2&#x3E; &#x3C;br /&#x3E;Saqqara

Memphis, capital of Ancient Egypt during the Old Kingdom. It is located
some 40 kilometres south from Cairo. &#x3C;br /&#x3E; &#x3C;br /&#x3E;Saqqara is best known for the &#x3C;strong&#x3E;Step Pyramid&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;, the oldest of Egypt&#x27;s pyramids. It was built for King Djoser during the 3rd &#x3C;div class=&#x22;photo_style_inline&#x22; style=&#x22;width: 304px;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.travelblog.org/Photos/1947024.html&#x22; onclick=&#x22;dialog(&#x26;quot;/Photos/1947024.html?popped=1&#x26;quot;,&#x26;quot;tbphoto&#x26;quot;,880,748);return false;&#x22; class=&#x22;ptl&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;img width=&#x22;300&#x22; height=&#x22;300&#x22; src=&#x22;http://img5.travelblog.org/Photos/17776/243953/t/1947024-Exploring-Snofru-s-Red-Pyramid-4.jpg&#x22; style=&#x22;border: medium none ;&#x22; title=&#x22;Exploring Snofru&#x27;s Red Pyramid&#x22; alt=&#x22;Exploring Snofru&#x27;s Red Pyramid&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.travelblog.org/Photos/1947024.html&#x22; onclick=&#x22;dialog(&#x26;quot;/Photos/1947024.html?popped=1&#x26;quot;,&#x26;quot;tbphoto&#x26;quot;,880,748);return false;&#x22; class=&#x22;ptl&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;Exploring Snofru&#x27;s Red Pyramid&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;The

in the mid-27th century BC. In addition to Djoser&#x27;s, there are as many
as 16 other pyramids on the site, in various states of preservation (or
sometimes dilapidation). &#x3C;br /&#x3E; &#x3C;br /&#x3E;Saqqara is also home to an
impressive number of mastaba tombs. Because the necropolis was lost
beneath the sands for much of the past 2,000 years many of the mastabas
have been superbly preserved, with both their structures and lavish
decorations intact. The most famous one is that of &#x3C;strong&#x3E;Meruruka&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; with 32 rooms, each one decorated with reliefs. The mastabas of &#x3C;strong&#x3E;Ptah-Hotep&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; and &#x3C;strong&#x3E;Ti&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;
are also worth visiting. The latter features an underground shaft which
leads to the burial chamber with a massive stone sarcophagus. &#x3C;br /&#x3E; &#x3C;br /&#x3E;An extra ticket (New Tombs, LE 25) will give you access to three more tombs, including the tomb of &#x3C;strong&#x3E;Irukaptah&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; and the double tomb of &#x3C;strong&#x3E;NiankhKhnum and Khnumhotep&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; - both should not be missed. &#x3C;br /&#x3E; &#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;h2&#x3E;Sound and Light show&#x3C;/h2&#x3E; &#x3C;br /&#x3E;In
operation since 1961, the Sound and Light show at the Giza Pyramids is
a highlight and a &#x26;quot;must do&#x26;quot; for most visitors to Egypt. The intriguing
combination of a modern light and laser show combined with the ancient
history of Egypt makes for an &#x3C;div class=&#x22;photo_style_inline_left&#x22; style=&#x22;width: 223px;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.travelblog.org/Photos/1947021.html&#x22; onclick=&#x22;dialog(&#x26;quot;/Photos/1947021.html?popped=1&#x26;quot;,&#x26;quot;tbphoto&#x26;quot;,880,748);return false;&#x22; class=&#x22;ptl&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;img width=&#x22;219&#x22; height=&#x22;300&#x22; src=&#x22;http://img5.travelblog.org/Photos/17776/243953/t/1947021-The-corbel-vaulted-ceiling-of-the-antechamber-2.jpg&#x22; style=&#x22;border: medium none ;&#x22; title=&#x22;The corbel-vaulted ceiling of the antechamber&#x22; alt=&#x22;The corbel-vaulted ceiling of the antechamber&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.travelblog.org/Photos/1947021.html&#x22; onclick=&#x22;dialog(&#x26;quot;/Photos/1947021.html?popped=1&#x26;quot;,&#x26;quot;tbphoto&#x26;quot;,880,748);return false;&#x22; class=&#x22;ptl&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;The corbel-vaulted ceiling of the antechamber&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;This
