Life is said to be likened to a rose. We praise its beauty but we despise its thorns. We only appreciate the beauty that the rose have and never accepting the thorns within. Many of us look at ourselves and see only the thorns, the defects. I despair; thinking nothing good can possibly come from me. I neglect to water the good within me, and eventually it dies. I never realize my potentials. So it is with many people. Within every soul, there is a rose. The €œGod-like€ qualities planted in us at birth, growing amidst the thorns of our faults. Some don’t see the rose within themselves. It takes someone else to show it to them. One of the greatest gifts a person can possess is to be able to reach past the thorns and find the rose within others. That is, to accept the rose as a whole, not only the petals that the rose possesses but also the thorns that grows with it. 

This is the truest, most innocent, and gracious characteristic of love - to know oneself and another person, including the faults, recognize the nobility of the soul, and still help our own self and others to realize that we can overcome our faults and transcend differences and pray for one another; loving one'€™s self is not being selfish, it is being true and loyal to the self which is the foundation of loving other people as seen in Christ'€™s commandment to love: €œlove your neighbor as you love yourself for the love of God. 

We are then faced with the challenge to show the rose within us and conquer the thorns. We must always remember that it is not enough that we forgive others, but we must also first have to forgive ourselves and give others a chance as we do the same with ourselves. If we have come to accept who we are despite of my our weaknesses and frailties and still posses the enthusiasm to continue and strive to grab the opportunities and chances that the world gives; if we have the courage to stand up from the mud we fell into and take the shot of the second chance given, only then will we come to realize and consider ourselves to be strong.
