When you look at me, what do you see?

Do you see someone limited?  Someone not free?

All of you that just look and stare

Solely because you cannot see my hair.

Do you think I am controlled or uneducated?

Do you think that I’m limited and not liberated?

Are you thankfully thinking your glad your not me?

Because in your small mind you believe you are “free”.

Are you sure that "free" is the word you want to use  

To describe the women you cheat on and abuse

 

Do you think that I do not have an opinion or voice?

Do you believe the hood on my head is against my choice?

When you see my hood, do you see me as caged?

Does it make my husband or father appear outraged?

When you look at me, why does your face display fear?

Did you even notice that my eyes were full of tears?

My tears are not because you stare or I’m made fun of

They are pity for you and others who ignore Allah above

On judgment day you will be the one branded as a fool

For being too ashamed to follow his holy rules

Possibly you “free” guys don’t think I’m a cutie

Because my hood only displays my inner beauty

 

Muslim men are able to appreciate my intellect

They are attracted to me because I am elegant

I am not defined by the length of my skirt

Or even by the tightness of a tiny shirt

Hooded girls are helping the Muslim cause

The role that we play deserves applause

We have the strength to do what we know is right

We believe in it enough to put up a life long fight

Muslim women are the ones free and the liberated

Your “free” women are the ones sexually violated

Muslim women are the ones that are free and pure

Free of the STD’s that you “free” have no cure

So when people ask me how I feel about my hood

I just say, “My hood represents all that is good”

A long dark way I'm passing by

Full of obstacles trying to stop me

People think I'm too soft to climb high

But I'll go on and prove what I can be

 

So lonely, so scared, so sad

Falling once, standing again

But seeing my weakness makes me mad

And pulls me forward, ignoring my pain

 

I looked up at the sky

stared at a cloud

it's just steam but flying high

so I can also beat my bound

 

sometimes I feel I'm weak as a leaf

broken, hurt, and my eyes are full of tears

but in my heart I have a true belief

that.. something.. someday.. is going to make me cheer

A leaf was flying in the sky

Tickling the clouds, flirting the moon

I looked at it with a tear in my eye

How lucky you are .. my little toon

 

Doesn't care about loneliness

Doesn't care about fear

I wish I were you..

My lonely dear

 

Swinging with air

Floating with rivers

kissing the trees

and free for ever

 

you've never been sad

never been upset

you don't have bad feelings

neither hate , nor regret

 

you are my symbol

I'll follow ur trend

I wish I were u

My only friend
