'Islam' means submission to God. 'Muslim' means one who submits to God. One important point about religions is this: All the names of the religions of the world, except Islam, are linked to a person's name, or to the name of a region or to the name of a tribe etc. Judaism is named after the tribe of Judah; Hinduism is named after the region of the Sindhu (Indus) river basin; Buddhism is named after Gautama Buddha and Christianity is named after Jesus Christ. But Islam means Submission to the One and Only God of the universe.It is not Muhammad's (pbuh) invention. He did not claim that he was founding a new religion; but said that he wanted to restore the true religion of all the earlier prophets. So who founded Islam, as it were? God. Or if you want to name a human as the beginner of the Religion of Islam, it was Adam the first man and prophet. Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad (peace be on them all) were all prophets of Islam. And we Muslims have a greater right to call Jesus our prophet than the so-called Christians
