The tortoise and the turtle
were named Joey and Myrtle
and though they were cousins of a sort
not from the same shop were they bought

Now it happened that on one sunny day
Myrtle came to the pond where Joey lay
basking in the sun to warm before a swim
but when she came into view he had another whim

Being slightly less than full of guile
he promptly came to chat with her a while
and was not too shy to nudge her shiny shell
for that she liked him he thought that he could tell

But when he asked her to come for a swim
her answer quite deeply horrified him
“Swimming is simply not good for my skin”
at which he blinked with mouth silently gaping

"Not swim?" he finally found the breath to gasp
"then how do you fish" he took her to task
she responded "No fish is in my diet"
"I just eat salad stuff, you should try it"

Such a thing Joey had never known
so he went to swim just on his own
to contemplate this strange diet Myrtle chose
eating weeds that would have tickled his nose

Where is the fun in that he thought
I enjoy chasing till fish are caught
but those salads seem like weeds to me
and have no movement I can see

All this time Myrtle was chomping leaves
under the pleasant shelter of some trees
a mixed salad left out for her to munch
when her owner was preparing lunch........
