They were the kitchen, brass cafe, and sale and marketing department. The training really enhanced my knowledge toward the operation of hotel systems. Most of the staff members at high level had gone through the hardship before they got their promotion. It encouraged me to be smart and work hard to gain more knowledge and experience in order to face with most types of situation that might happen during various stages of my future career as an hotelier. The chefs working at the kitchen were nice even though some of them had tough personalities. They were readily friendly once they found out that the trainees were sincere and eager to learn. The Food &amp; Beverage manager taught me a lot about ways of serving people, food costing, and operation of various dining rooms. These included the coffee house, function room, banquet, ballroom, lounge, and so on. Actually it was not easy to manage these departments unless someone managed them with knowledge, experience, creativeness and full cooperation of the staff members. The supervisor at the brass cafe taught me a lot about operation of coffee house since he had been working for this hotel line for more than 20 years. With working experience in this and other hotels, he was like a walking encyclopedia. Working at these 2 departments affirmed my belief that communications skill in handling human resources was very important since it was the tool to make people understand their mutual and dependence. By providing clear instructions or guidelines, managers and supervisors could direct the kitchen and brass cafe staff to serve the customers efficiently. During my training at the sales and marketing department, I was taught about sales of function room, ballroom, hotel room, and so on. Most of the staff members there were willing to teach. They taught me how to provide quotation for a room, how to take booking of functions room over the phone and so on. Of course, I did face some difficulties at every department. For example, one of the junior staff ladies intended to make my training difficult by treating me as one of her employees and ordered me around. Anyway, I took it as a learning process and took advantage of it to learn during the process. I just hoped to have a smooth training and learn as many things as possible.
